St. Johns County Release Meaning
A person is released from St. Johns County jail when SJSO custody ends. That fact does not always mean the person went home. Bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, dismissal, a court order, death, or transfer can each close the county custody event. The Main Detention Unit processes all arrests in the county. A person may then leave for the community, the Community Work Release Center, Florida Department of Corrections custody, another jail, federal custody, or ICE. The receiving system matters as much as the sheriff's release line.
Released people normally fall off a current-custody roster. Their event remains in the SJSO booking and release record, while the St. Johns County Clerk file explains the court action behind it. A later FDC, BOP, or ICE record may show the next custodian. Absence from a roster is weak proof because an outage, spelling issue, transfer, sealed record, or data delay can produce the same blank result.
- Discharge
- The end of custody or supervision under the authority that held the person.
- Time served
- A release after the court credits enough confinement to satisfy the term.
- Parole
- Release from prison subject to FCOR conditions in an eligible case.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, which may begin without a prison release.
St. Johns County Release Types
The release type tells the reader what ended and where to check next. A bond release ends physical jail custody under court conditions, but it does not end the criminal case. Recognizance works in much the same way without a surety bond. Time served or sentence complete may end a county sentence. A dismissal, acquittal, or nolle prosequi is a court disposition, so the Clerk docket should support it even though the jail record supplies the actual release time.
| Release entry | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | County custody ended under court terms | Clerk bond order and SJSO timestamp |
| Time served or complete | Maintained sentence credit satisfied the county term | Sentence and SJSO discharge |
| Transferred | SJSO custody ended, but another agency received the person | FDC, other jail, BOP, USMS, or ICE |
| Parole or conditional release | Prison ended while legal supervision continued | FDC supervised search and FCOR record |
| Dismissed or acquitted | The court ended or resolved a charge | Clerk docket plus jail release record |
A court filing date is not a jail release time. Processing can follow the judge's order. Likewise, a release timestamp does not explain the full legal result. Read both records before drawing a conclusion.
St. Johns County Release Record Fields
A focused request seeks records SJSO already maintains. The core event ties identity and a booking number to entry and exit from custody. Related fields can show the arresting agency, charges, bond, court case, authority for release, holds, a destination, and a booking photograph. Exempt or unavailable fields may be removed, so no single report is guaranteed to contain every item.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name, aliases, birth data | Identity cues, subject to lawful redaction |
| Booking or inmate number | The key linking the arrest, custody, and release event |
| Booking date and time | When the jail recorded admission |
| Release date and time | When SJSO custody ended |
| Release or disposition type | Bond, sentence completion, transfer, or another maintained label |
| Case, charge, and bond data | Links the jail event to the court file |
| Destination or receiving agency | Shows whether another custodian took the person |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that booking, when releasable |
The court record often lasts longer than the live jail entry. It may show bond orders, pleas, judgment, sentence, probation, dismissal, revocation, satisfaction, or a sealing order. It does not replace the sheriff's timestamp.
Request St. Johns County Release Records
The official SJSO public-records route sends requests to an electronic queue and lets the requester communicate with the assigned technician. The direct portal is also available at sjso.govqa.us. Requests are handled in order, fees may apply, and the page does not publish one flat cost for a release report or mugshot. Ask for an estimate before substantial work begins.
The captured SJSO page confirms the official request channels and fee notice rather than an invented fixed price.
- Identify the full name, approximate booking date, and booking or case number when known.
- Request the booking report and release or disposition record, including the recorded date, time, type, authority, and destination.
- Add the arrest booking photograph only when it is needed, and ask for an electronic copy.
- Request a cost estimate before significant charges and retain the portal tracking message.
- Compare the response with the Clerk docket and follow any named receiving agency.

St. Johns Release Record Access
Florida Statutes section 119.011 defines public records broadly, including photographs made or received in agency work. Section 119.07 requires reasonable inspection and copying, prompt acknowledgment, and a good-faith response. When only part is exempt, the custodian generally redacts that part and supplies the rest. Default paper and certification charges are set by law, while extensive clerical or technology work may support a reasonable special-service charge.
Access is not unlimited. Active investigative material, protected victims or addresses, security information, juvenile data, and sealed or expunged matters can be restricted under section 119.071 and other laws. A sealed record becomes confidential and exempt from ordinary access. Expunction generally requires agencies to destroy or obliterate the record, while FDLE retains a confidential copy under the statute. The current SJSO site publishes no online retention period for released names. A missing web entry does not establish destruction of the retained agency record.
When St. Johns Release Gets Authorized
St. Johns first appearance is conducted by Zoom, typically around 8:30 a.m., and generally occurs within 24 hours unless exceptional circumstances apply. The hearing can establish probable cause, bond, and release conditions. It does not establish the later moment when booking staff finish the physical discharge.
The official Seventh Judicial Circuit first-appearance information helps explain why a court order may appear before the SJSO release timestamp. For a sound timeline, read the court docket in order and then obtain the sheriff's event record. Do not treat the hearing time or the filing time as the time the person walked out or entered another agency's custody.
St. Johns County Release Property
Physical release has its own local steps. The SJSO handbook says stored property is returned against a signed verification. County-issued items must be returned, and the person needs the facility ID. The listed replacement charge for a lost or damaged facility ID is $6.28. These details describe processing, not proof that release has occurred.
Third-party property pickup uses 904-209-1430 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Call first to confirm that the signed property-release form is ready. For an expected FDC transfer, nonapproved property can be picked up or mailed at the inmate's expense. A former inmate can also retrieve personal SmartJailMail photos, messages, and scanned mail without charge for up to 30 days after release. That digital access is not a public roster and does not certify the release.
Search St. Johns County Released Inmates
The strongest St. Johns County released inmate search combines independent records. Start with the responsible custodian, then match more than a shared name. Each source answers a different part of the question.
- Check the official SJSO inmate-search entry and note any outage. Call Booking for immediate jail or bond status.
- Search the St. Johns Clerk case by case number or carefully matched name. Find the order or disposition that may have authorized release.
- Use Florida VINELink as a custody signal. A released result does not supply the official release type.
- Request the SJSO booking and release record for the actual date, time, type, and receiving agency.
- If the entry says transfer, continue with FDC, another county jail, BOP, USMS, or ICE as the facts require.
The same chain applies to a same-day check. No official rolling St. Johns release feed was verified on the research date.
St. Johns Release Search Outage
The official SJSO inmate-search entry was marked temporarily down on July 14, 2026. It directed bond questions to Booking, corrections to Records, and case dispositions to the Clerk. Research found no separate official 24-hour or 72-hour release page, no verified update cadence, no published retention window, and no SJSO recent-release phone app.
The image preserves the official outage and fallback routes. A legacy SmartWeb address was not working and should not be presented as a live source. Booking at 904-209-3125 handles immediate custody and bond questions. Records at 904-810-6610 holds the formal report, while the Clerk preserves the court case.
Florida Search for St. Johns Releases
The FDC Inmate Release Information Search covers felony offenders released from state prison or scheduled for state release. It does not cover a St. Johns county-jail sentence or county probation. Search the six-digit DC number when known. Otherwise use first and last name, keep alias searching on when useful, and compare several identity points before opening a match.
| Search field | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Last and first name | Prefix-based name search | Common names can return different people |
| DC number | Six-digit FDC identifier | Best key when verified |
| Search aliases | Includes recorded alternate names | Broader results need careful matching |
| Photograph controls | Show or suppress result images | A photo does not prove current status |
The official FDC search form shows the controls used for a St. Johns state-prison release check.
Read FDC's exact descriptor and date. A future tentative release date is an estimate, not a completed discharge. A past prison release date on a released record supports the end of FDC prison custody. Then check the supervised-population search because community supervision may continue. FDC says release and location changes update nightly and can change quickly.
St. Johns Release Supervision and Reentry
FDC operates Florida community corrections and its supervised-population search. FCOR makes parole and certain conditional-release decisions. The FDC record can show supervision type, status, assigned location, and a termination date. Its absconder search covers people who stopped making themselves available for supervision. County probation is excluded, so an FDC no-result does not rule it out. Use the Clerk sentence to identify the agency.
FDC Office 074 is the local state-supervision route at 75 King Street, Suite 310, St. Augustine, telephone 904-825-5038. Search online first, then call to clarify an assignment. A St. Johns conviction does not guarantee that the person currently reports there.
SJSO's on-site Re-Entry Center opened after a building tethered to the main jail was renovated. The 2023 annual report lists 369 assessments, 135 identification cards, and 93 family or support reunifications. Those are program counts, not the number of releases. They show local transition work without proving any person's custody status.
St. Johns Release Alerts and Federal Records
Florida VINELink covers county jail, FDC, and DJJ custody information. Search the exact person, select the relevant agency, compare identity details, and read the status. A no-result is not proof of release. A released or no-longer-in-custody signal should be checked against the SJSO or FDC record. Telephone registration uses 1-877-846-3435 and a PIN for acknowledgment. Direct VINE enrollment is separate from FDC Victim Services registration.
For federal custody, the BOP inmate locator shows a release date and location. A past date with RELEASED or Not in BOP Custody confirms exit from BOP, but not release from every custodian or supervision. UNKNOWN is not a release result. Federal pretrial custody may require USMS records instead.
ICE's locator is mainly for present ICE custody, not a historical release archive. A historical 2019 St. Johns 287(g) agreement described immigration warrants served at scheduled criminal release and an up-to-48-hour transfer framework. Treat that agreement as historical, but keep the core distinction: release from SJSO can coincide with an ICE handoff. Check the SJSO destination field first, then ICE ODLS or its field office.
Getting Home After St. Johns Release
County sources identify public transit and a Government Center shelter in the Lewis Speedway judicial complex. No reviewed jail source promises a ride, escort, release stop, exit door, family waiting area, or fixed release hour. Anyone planning a pickup should verify the live custody status and current transit details before traveling.
The county's public transit information and bus-shelter page provide the current service source. They do not create a jail transportation service. Release processing can follow a court action at an unknown interval, and a transfer may leave no community pickup at all.
St. Johns Release Records by Custodian
Choose the source by custody system and by whether the event is current or complete. Combining unlike systems causes false conclusions.
| Question | Best source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Still in St. Johns jail? | SJSO current entry or Booking | Present county custody signal |
| When did SJSO custody end? | SJSO booking and release record | County release time, type, and destination if maintained |
| Why did the case change? | St. Johns Clerk docket | Court order, disposition, sentence, or probation |
| Released from Florida prison? | FDC release search | State status and release-related date |
| Under state supervision? | FDC supervised or absconder search | Current state-supervision status |
| Released from federal prison? | BOP locator | End of BOP custody only |
| Currently in ICE custody? | ICE ODLS | Current locator result, not a release history |
St. Johns County Release Facilities
St. Johns County Main Detention Unit is the adult booking hub and a 664-bed pretrial facility. The Community Work Release Center is a 100-bed male county unit for sentences of 364 days or less. Work release is a custody status, not discharge. Both adult units use the SJSO record and Clerk case to confirm release.
Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Daytona Beach serves St. Johns and three other counties. It is not an adult SJSO search channel. DJJ procedures and the fact-specific confidentiality rules in Florida Statutes section 985.04 govern juvenile release and transfer information. The former St. Johns Regional juvenile facility is closed and is not a current option.
